The Killarney Vale Australian Football Club, also known as the Central Coast Bombers are our local AFL team. You can find their home ground in Adelaide Street, Tumbi Umbi. The Bombers cater for Juniors (boys and girls) and Seniors, both men and women as well as running an Auskick program. The Club has enjoyed an outstanding result in Auskick participation with over 100 Auskickers joining the Club in 2022, this was more than the combined total of all other centres on the Central Coast. The success in 2022 didn’t stop there, with the Black Diamond Cup Women’s team claiming Runners Up, and the Black Diamond Cup Men’s team securing a Grand Final victory!
Mingara has a long history of supporting the Bombers, since they were first formed in 1978.
“In late 1977 a group of locals formed the Killarney Vale Aussie Rules club at a meeting at the Pre School in Adelaide Street. Then in 1978 the club began to train two nights a week at the ground across the road and of course after training we walked over to Mingara for a drink. At this stage the club was not licensed but had what was known as a ‘Keg Club’, where people could pay money which was then entered as credit (money) into a book and any drinks purchased were then debited against the entry. Most of the Aussie Rules players (and myself) were young and had little money. The day the club was granted a license, I think it was a Friday – the day the Aussie Rules boys trained. Shirley Hadley, Peter Hale, Billy Kembrey and Ray Greentree, just to name a few, had been at the Licensing Court in Sydney for the hearing and were very jubilant when they returned late in the afternoon. There was free grog for all for a couple of hours. The Aussie Rules team and club members began to use Mingara as their watering hole, where friendships were created and alliances cemented.” – Former Killarney Vale AFL president Ian Granland.
Mingara are proud to be a major sponsor of the Bombers in 2023.
